Hi, I’m Mel. This is Meta AI. It answers questions, helps you write and creates images. What makes it different is where it lives: inside the apps many people already use to message, scroll and share, as well as its own website and app.

On the web, Meta AI looks like a familiar standalone assistant. Ask a question, draft something, debug code or attach material to examine. This is the best surface when you want a focused conversation with room to work. The core experience is free, although particular tools and limits can vary.

The bigger difference is distribution. In WhatsApp and Messenger, Meta AI can be a direct chat or join a conversation when you address it. In Instagram, it can help inside messaging and creative experiences. In Facebook, it can appear around search, posts and groups. The Meta AI app and website give the assistant its own space. Each placement serves the same idea: help without leaving what you were doing.

In a group chat, mention Meta AI when you want its help: suggest a meeting place, explain a term, settle a quick factual question or create an image for the group. The answer appears in the same conversation, so nobody needs to copy information between apps. On WhatsApp, that mention does not give Meta AI access to the whole private chat. It receives the prompt and the messages people deliberately share with it.

Choose the surface to match the job. Use WhatsApp or Messenger when the people and the discussion are part of the task. Use Instagram or Facebook when you want ideas connected to something you are viewing or preparing to share. Move to the Meta AI website or app for a longer exchange, voice, attachments or creative work. The advantage is not that every surface does everything. It is that the assistant can be close to the context that matters.

Across those surfaces, Meta AI can handle ordinary text questions, spoken conversations, image creation and material you attach. The free experience is enough for everyday help, planning and experimentation. Features roll out gradually, so your screen may differ. Start with the controls you have and keep the task simple until you understand where each feature works best.

Privacy depends on what you choose to send to the assistant. Your ordinary personal WhatsApp messages and calls remain end-to-end encrypted. When you mention Meta AI or share a message with it, Meta receives that selected content so the AI can respond, and may use AI interactions to improve its models. Other Meta AI chats do not necessarily have the same encryption as the conversation around them. Treat the AI as a separate participant: share only what it needs, check the controls available on that surface and keep confidential or sensitive information out of an ordinary AI chat.

A useful Meta AI habit has three steps. Choose the surface that already contains the right people or content. Share the minimum context the assistant needs, deliberately. Then check any answer that could affect a decision, especially for health, money, law or safety. Convenience can remove a lot of copying and switching. It does not remove the need to judge the result.

Start free in one Meta app you already use. Ask Meta AI for help with a real but low-risk task, such as planning an outing or improving a message. Notice whether staying inside the conversation saves effort. That is Meta AI’s clearest strength: the assistant turns up where the work and the people already are.
