Hi, I'm Mel. AI can produce six polished slides before you have decided what the meeting is for. That is impressive, and backwards. A presentation is an argument for a particular audience, ending in a decision; attractive pages do not create that argument. This video shows where AI saves time, where it creates work, and how to keep control of the deck.

There are three useful starting points. Give the tool a topic and it must invent the structure and much of the content. Give it an outline and it can turn your thinking into slides. Give it a source document and it can organise material that already exists. Topic is fastest. Outline and source usually give you more control. Use the strongest input you have, and tell it who the deck is for and what decision follows.

We tested this directly. The prompt asks for six management slides on extending the Fernhollow lion tours and supplies the four-week booking figures, prices and topics to cover. Canva returns a coherent outline and a designed deck. It is a strong first pass. It also chooses imagery, emphasis and wording we did not specify. Generation has solved the blank page. It has not approved the content.

Before editing colours, test the argument with three lines. Audience: who must understand this? Question: what do they need answered? Decision: what should happen after the last slide? Then read the slide titles in order. If the titles do not form a clear case, better images will not repair it. Rearrange the logic while the deck is still cheap to change.

Every number on a slide needs a home outside the slide: a table, model, system report or cited source. The deck may display one result, but it should not become the only place the result exists. Recalculate totals, check units and dates, and make sure the headline matches the evidence. Good design increases credibility. That makes an unchecked number more dangerous, not less.

The tool choice follows the destination. Gamma is a fast route from outline to a link-shared story. Canva suits a branded pitch or campaign with plenty of media. PowerPoint suits a management file that colleagues will edit, comment on and reuse. NotebookLM can build from a defined source set when the briefing must stay close to supplied documents. None removes the review. Choose the route that fits what happens to the file afterwards.

Once the story works, apply the brand: approved type, colours, logo, image style and spacing. In this example, the generated title page looks polished, but it belongs to the generator's visual world. The rebuilt version belongs to Fernhollow. Brand is not decoration. It tells the audience that these slides are part of the same organisation and can be read as one system.

Do not finish at the editor preview. Export the deck, open it in the software or mode the audience will use, and inspect every slide. Look for substituted fonts, changed line breaks, missing backgrounds, soft images and awkward crops. Then run the slideshow once. The object you are delivering is the exported file or shared presentation; the canvas you edited is only the working view.

One final test catches weak slides quickly. Cover the body and read the headline. “Bookings” labels a topic. “Weekend demand rose every week” states the point. The chart and detail should prove that sentence. One idea per slide is not a design fashion; it lets the audience follow the argument at speaking speed. If the headline cannot state the point, the slide may not know what it is doing.

Let AI remove the blank page, suggest an order and draft the visual structure. Keep the audience, argument, evidence and final file under human control. Start from the best source you have, review the skeleton before styling it, and open the export before the meeting. That is how a fast AI draft becomes a presentation you can stand behind.
